how to get Shallow depth of field in birds in flight photographs

How to get a shallow depth of field is something every photographer knows how to do. But with birds in flight it is a bit more difficult. Why because birds usually fly far and fast.

Quick explaining how to get a shallow depth of field:
the depth of field does get smaller if the aperture of your lens is opened up.  And the depth of field becomes thinner if you focusses closer.

So how are we going to tackle this problem? You are just going to wait on one spot so birds get more comfortable with coming close. and as they keep
getting closer you can practise getting them in your
viewfinder.
And one more important thing is that low flying birds give a better background. Because you will get some of the surrounding area in your composition. A blown out sky doesn't need a shallow depth of field, but a background full of trees do.
